Winterreise

In Schubert’s Winterreise, a traveller wounded by unrequited love treks through a desolate winter landscape, longing for the restfulness of death. This song cycle is one of Schubert’s last, and also one of his most poignant. The baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Markus Hinterhäuser plunge into these 24 dramatic songs as a video by the renowned visual artist William Kentridge further explores the emotion.
