The Percussion Pianist Amaro Freitas describes himself as a 'Percussion Pianist' and indeed he extracts drum qualities from the piano in his shimmering Brazilian jazz compositions. He is particularly passionate about preserving the unique nature of his homeland Brazil and the 'decolonization of jazz', as he calls his musical journeys into the indigenous music cultures of Brazil and Africa.
