Mein Vaterland

Bedřich Smetana is the father of Czech music, combining the romantic tone of German-speaking composers with the idiom of Bohemian folk music. His symphonic poem 'Mein Vaterland' plays a prominent role in the emerging Czech national consciousness, and the second movement, a tone painting of the 'Moldau', became a worldwide hit. The concert features works by Smetana, Dvořák, and Ljadow, showcasing the national character of Czech music.
