Symphonie Fantastique

“The first psychedelic symphony in history,” Leonard Bernstein called Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. In five movements, a young artist, tormented by hopeless love, descends into an opium-induced hallucination. To express this turmoil, Berlioz defies convention and creates a revolutionary work. The same spirit sounds in John Adams and Wim Henderickx: both classical and dance-like, with bold orchestral colours shaped by brass and percussion.
