Oh to Believe in Another World

The concert moves between the fragile faith of Pēteris Vasks’s music and the resistance and inner rage of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony. William Kentridge’s 50-minute film provides a visual counterpart to the symphony, looking back at the decades from the 1920s to the 1950s.
